Clean up your diet to clear up your skin!

We spend so much money and time wondering what to put on our faces, but how much do we think about what goes onto our plate and into our body?

In the past most dermatologists suggested food and diet will not affect your breakouts, however some have come to their senses and suggested otherwise!

The food you eat builds your body from the inside out. Food gets digested and broken down into vitamins, amino acids, and minerals that your body can use to build healthy skin! If your diet consists of processed foods or crash diets your skin or your body won’t be as strong as it could be.

So what are some foods we need to watch out for?

Try to eat as close to the natural whole source as possible- eat the way nature intended! This means plants, fruits and veggies in their most unprocessed, natural form. Unless it has a peel, try to eat as organic as possible.

Skip the dairy.

Dairy in your diet is strongly linked to acne. This includes cow’s milk, ice cream, sour cream, cream cheese, etc. Try replacing it with almond milk or coconut milk. You can also try goat cheese or hard cheeses would be better.

Cut down on the sugar.

Low-glycemic diets have shown to be beneficial to acne-prone skin. Sugar, corn syrup, rice syrup, etc. can spike your insulin levels, instead replace that with fruits, honey, agave, or medjool dates.

Avoid peanuts and peanut butter.

Peanuts, peanut butter, and wheat germ all contain androgen hormones that increase your oil production and can cause breakouts. You can enjoy other nuts, as long as they’re unsalted. Try almond and cashew butter instead.

Processed meats.

Again try to eat as organic as possible. A lot of processed meat nowadays is filled with hormones and iodine. Try to stay away from things like hot dog links, sausage, bacon, processed deli meat.

Cut down on the alcohol and soda beverages.

Especially if the alcoholic drink you’re having includes any sugar “mixes” that will definitely cause some inflammation. Stay away from soda, diet sodas, energy drinks, sports drinks and fruit juices which all contain tons of sugar.

Refined carbs.

They have poor nutritional value and just contribute to digestive conditions, feed the bad bacteria, causes your body to produce more oil, and ages your skin. All around this is a big no-no.
